Air India has been hit by an unfortunate incident involving its engineering unit. One of its CFM engines fell off while being installed on an Airbus 320 aeroplane, the damage is expected to be a few crores. There has been no official statement by the carrier but an official said that the incident happened on September 30 in Mumbai and an enquiry has been ordered. The airline has informed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation about the incident.

The engineering department has been under scrutiny for a while, and the division gets approximately $1.5 million every day to keep all the aeroplanes flying, it has failed to meet the target. Executives from within the department claim that the engine did not fall, instead, they say that the hoist of the engine slipped – they provided assurance that the engine would undergo tests and checks before it is re-installed.
