B&R Industrial Automation India hosted Innovation Day, an event directed to the need for a progressive shift towards industrial automation and digitisation within the industrial sector in India. It is a known fact that the manufacturing sector in India is witnessing tremendous change. And even though Industry 4.0 has progressed over the last few years, when compared to global standards, the average level of digitalisation within the country still has a long way to go. Industrial Automation, India felt the need to sustain manufacturing competitiveness and the increasing need for investment in digital technologies. The one-day conference was dedicated to building smart machines and factories, with an emphasis on the acute needs of fully automated and connected assets.

The B&R conference in India

The event commenced as Hans Wimmer, Managing Director, B&R took to the stage. He highlighted the various B&R accomplishments in the year 2018, briefed the audience on how the innovations by B&R are helping customers across the world, enhance productivity, improve quality and avoid unplanned breakdowns. Jhankar Dutta, Managing Director, B&R India, illustrated how digitisation offers endless benefits to manufacturers as well as factories.  This was followed by an address on ‘Innovation for High Performance’ which was delivered by Shirish Divgi, Managing Director, Plastics Machinery Asia, Milacron. Speaking on the topic, he explained on how leaders in the corporate sector can enhance and build a high-performing innovation team.

A panel discussion was well received by the delegates, with experts across industries on ‘Building smart machines and factories: Concept to implementation.’ The esteemed speakers in the panel were Premal Patwa, Technical Director, Prasad & Prashant Group; Satish Godse, Director, NU VU Conair; Jignesh Pandya, Director, Gayatri Controls; Rahul  Wathodkar, Sr. Manager Technical Service, Desma India; Subrata Karmakar, President, Robotics Business, ABB India and David Hemetsberger, Strategy Manager – India, B&R Austria. The main objective of this panel discussion was to explicate the various aspects involved in executing successful digital transformation and ways to ensure ROI in the long-term. During the discussion, panellists shared with the audience the current scenario of Indian machine manufacturing, short-term and long-term challenges and benefits of digitisation and highlighted the importance of digitisation.
