The government has put forth new guidelines concerning the technical parameters on various products available in the renewable sector. Sachin Bhalla, VP Marketing, Luminous Power Technologies said: “Presently, within the renewable sector, we are working towards compliance for solar panels and inverters, and there are strict guidelines in terms of efficiency, quality and safety that companies must meet.”

Some of the guidelines were enforced in January and in the last three years has made the installation process has better. “In my personal experience, each year we see players join the solar industry, and we also see an existing system of system integrators.” The general learning is that once you have installed and worked successfully on three projects you learn from your mistakes. “The industry is fast maturing and today it is getting increasingly difficult to tell if people are well equipped to be carrying out solar installations on their own,” he said.

Highlighting a few steps taken by Luminous Power Technologies, Bhalla said: “There are end-users who look at installing set systems, and we also have channel partners who try and understand various products.” The objective, he added, is to reach out to end consumers as well as system integrators to bring in new products. While being assertive on how we as an industry can move towards growth, he said: “There are two big benefits of solar – you save on energy because you are generating your electricity, and second because you have a two-year breakeven time.” During this time, the system continues to give you power at zero cost.
