Former Union Minister calls for a unified approach to waste management

The legislation and government policy on various issues related to the management of water and waste are available, we need an ecosystem where everything can fall into place, says Shri Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister for Commerce and Industry

The IFAT Expo 2019 is a trade fair dedicated to water, sewage, solid waste and recycling, and has proved to be a springboard in bringing about change. Shri Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Government of India said: “Unless you have all these different stakeholders together, you cannot bring change.” While focusing on the importance of water, he said: “If you look at the size of the population, you will realise that water has to be used optimally.” The legislation and government policy on various issues related to the management of water and waste management are available, but the present issue lies with creating an ecosystem where everything can fall into place. Also, Shri Suresh Prabhu drew attention to energy and the conservation of energy. He said: “We are proved beyond doubt that proper regulation and commercial responsibility can transform a particular sector.” Hence, the formula to future success is that we leverage technology and understand the Indian market better.
