India has approximately 200million vehicles, 82% of which are two and three-wheelers. While drawing attention to policy, Manas Trivedi, Senior Manager, Exicom Tele-Systems Limited said: “The government has been very clear in promoting electric mobility.” From a techno-commercial perspective, he said, the government has come up with its own plans of promoting the subject. While projecting an increase in the level of the demand for batteries, Trivedi said that there would be an approximate 60% to 65% increase in the demand for batteries.
While elaborating on the subject of mobility and the role of cost in energy storage solutions, Trivedi said that the subject is complex. He said: “It is important for India to take cues from the international market.” In addition, he said that India is a value-conscious country, and we have realised that the cost is not the only thing the consumer is interested in. On the other hand, Dr Rashi Gupta, Founder Director, Vision Mechatronics, offered a differing opinion. She said: “India is a unique country and no solutions developed abroad can apply to us directly. We have to customise solutions based on our requirements and our environment.”
