“The idea of outsourcing is a new concept within the industry today,” said Jitendra Singh, Director- Business Development and Strategy, Leadec India. He said: “Nowadays, we see the sector wake up to its true potential.”
So far, the industry has been hiring individuals by the method of contractual manpower on an individual basis and based on specific needs. Also, the contractor provides manpower, contractual labour as per the industry’s requirement. Industries are slowly realising that the only way, they can get real value is by scope-based outsourcing. “Interestingly, customers in the industry are toying with their strategy to redefine the ‘core and the non-core activities’ by which they can outsource ‘non-core’ activities,” he added. Elaborating, he said: “Leadec has taken outsourcing to a different level by offering scope-based outsourcing linked with Performance KPIs for the Production Equipment Maintenance in a plant.”
Further elaborating on the present market conditions in the industrial service sector, Singh said: “The industrial service sector is largely un-organised. The sector continues to grow as there is no dearth of manpower with skills (right skills could be a question mark, though!) in India” The Indian industry is going through adverse effects of VUCA (Volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity)-phenomenon and the outsourcing helps to hedge issues with fluctuation in the market and liabilities with respect to head-count. “Typically, Service outsourcing would help reduce the need for in house ‘expertise’ in non-core areas for an Industry,” he added.
