“In India, the sewage line is subject to manual intervention especially when it comes to cleaning. But if we have robots designed and fully automated to take care of the process, I am sure we can avoid in-human practises where-in people have to enter sewer lines, said Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Assistant Engineering Manager, Wastewater, L&T Construction.

“The market is slowly opening up to a social shift, and is gradually moving towards technology, this will create value even if it is at a higher cost,” he said.

“The future definitely involves automation, robotics and digitalisation, and all we need to do is open our mind to bigger concepts,” he added. In the next five to ten years, L&T aims to become completely digital. “We are all moving towards a more digitally-robust system,” he said. Pointing to the investment in research and development as having a key role to play in this shift, he said: “Reteach and development on the corporate level is very crucial, and from the company point of view – every year we have a certain budget allocated to this,”
