Fortum to add Data Science & Analytics unit as part of its focus on IT

Digital technologies are transforming the energy sector and are central to Fortum’s ability to operate efficiently, compete profitability, and help decarbonise society simultaneously. This requires the best technical and digital competences and solutions. Fortum will grow its competences with new, world-class analytics and machine learning team. The new Data Science & Analytics unit will be established as part of the business technology, covering IT, innovation and digitization within Fortum.

Dr Christian Jacobsson has been appointed to lead the Data Science & Analytics unit. His unit’s task is to strengthen Fortum’s projects in digitization and support in reaching the company’s vision of future energy and asset optimization. He will report to SVP Arun Aggarwal, Business Technology at Fortum.

“Christian’s appointment helps us to increase speed, quality and the likeliness for success in our digitization projects,” says Arun Aggarwal. “Christian Jacobsson has been working with digital applications in this area, developing a number of digitization use cases for several years, and he will give us an opportunity to reinforce our capabilities in optimization, trading and advanced analytics from a new point of view,” says Simon-Erik Ollus, VP Trading & Asset Optimization at Fortum.
