At Frankfurt Airport, Fraport is testing the world’s first walk-through security scanner for passengers. Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S QPS Walk2000 is designed to speed up security screenings. The first scanner in Terminal 1’s Concourse A allows passengers to walk through without stopping. This six-month trial will provide useful information for system optimization.

The R&S QPS Walk2000, a 360° walk-through scanner, quickly detects various items without physical contact. It improves the security experience by allowing passengers to pass through without stopping. Its millimeter-wave technology can penetrate clothing layers, increasing comfort and privacy. AI-based detection software identifies objects, reducing the need for follow-up checks and streamlining security procedures.

The German Federal Police and Fraport worked together to evaluate the walk-through scanner at Frankfurt Airport. While Fraport introduced the R&S QPS Walk2000, the German Federal Police oversees security testing and final approval. The scanner aims for faster, more comfortable checks while maintaining high security standards. The trial is conducted in Schengen Concourse A of Terminal 1, known for its significant passenger traffic.

The ongoing test phase at Frankfurt Airport compares the new R&S QPS Walk2000 scanners to the established R&S QPS201 scanners. The goal is to make the walk-through scanner as reliable and efficient as the R&S QPS201 for passenger security checks.
