NielsenIQ announced the 2023 BASES Breakthrough Innovation Awards in India, honoring breakthrough product launches that disrupted their categories, targeted niche markets, and acknowledged ‘Wavemakers’ with significant domain impact in three years.
Incredible Innovation recognized 10 outstanding Indian brands for category revolution this year, as well as two forming ‘Wavemakers’ with significant future potential.
The current Breakthrough Innovation recipients successfully navigated a difficult environment characterized by the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic, supply chain interruptions, and significant inflationary constraints.
This year’s India Breakthrough Innovation winners excelled in a variety of product areas. Consumer preferences shifted toward entertaining and decadent characteristics in food and beverage businesses, enjoying spicy flavors while highlighting healthy, entire ingredients. Winners focused ease and diversified packaging alternatives across industries, including personal care.
“When it comes to evaluating innovations, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach anymore. It is critical to understand the business objectives and the innovation strategy. However, one common thread for success is sustainability of the innovation in-market which is non-negotiable,” stated Vidya Sen, BASES Leader, South Asia. As a result, BASES considers the scale of the innovations in year 1 and their continued growth in year 2 to determine the winners.
BASES selected roughly 12 winners from over 3000 ideas across 85 FMCG and OTC categories. Their combined year one sales were Rs. 623 Crores, demonstrating the potential impact of well-executed innovations.
